I am seeking people with Google Horror Stories to post on my site http://www.googlehorrorstories.net. The purpose of my site is to build a repository of first hand experiences that will travel the Net to eventually put pressure on the big G to resolve some of thier most basic problems. The more people who get involved and the more people who syndicate the articles the better chance we have of making a difference. Please feel free to post your article today!

Dear Moderator: append the following to my previous post.

What I found common to the two memberships was that as time went on the probability of finding a match I liked declined and the probability of their responding to a communication request declined.

Both times only three matches ended up at the full communication stage and these matches occurred in the first month.

On the statistics, you need to compare the marriage rate of the general public that wants to get married to the site rate.

In the late 70s I belonged to the Peninsula Bible Church singles group. They had about 500 members each Sunday. There was an average of one engagement announcement per week. This comes out to a 20% annual rate of finding a mate.

Another problem with the site statistics is that the rate is probably not uniform over age, gender, and reasons for being single. In my age group there are 10 women per man.

I have been a member twice, once at age 58 and again at age 61. I got two radically different personality profiles and was matched to radically different types of women each time. So much for the scientific nature of the test. People do not have radical personality transformations at age 60 or so. I liked some of the matches the first time, but the matches the second time were colorless wimps. It is common for the women to post old photos and to claim things about themselves that are more socially desirable than their true characteristics.

Eradicated, shmradicated...two friggin' studies and you think you have all the answers. I got to this website because I'm doing an essay on a social institution, and I chose marriage. I chose to comment without any credentials to back me up, but I do have a sociology text book in which the last chapter is devoted to marriage. Its studies show that when the question of fidelity came up, things have not changed over times even though promiscuity has. It says that 80% of women and 65-85% of men (adult Americans) ages eighteen to fifty-nine had zero or one sexual partner in the past year, which sounds ludicrous to the more promiscuos young people that know they and some of their friends have had multiple partners in the last year. But this study shows that is not the norm and that the fundamentals of marriage are still in tact. We marry for love and the promise of fidelity because that's security. Infidelity is not the norm, and even though there are many kinds of relationships, and our politics and policies are starting to change, those changes are to be more inclusive in marriage such as same-sex marriage for insurance and other protections that come through legal marriage. Eradication is stupid. Social inequality is what the problem is...not marriage.

This is a good post. Althought it doesn't always work. People who are just learning about debates, may or may not look at this, I did. I know what I am talking about, I win in EVERY situation, and I never lose. Clearly, you might have won, but don't take that for granted. Your biggest fear in any debate, is having a plan, and not allowing your opponent find out what it is. It is a lot harder then it seems. Through my many years of debating with people about many stupid and silly things, I have come up with the perfect plan. One of which I need not worry. It is far to complex for my opponent to figure it out. I am 18 years year old, and love to debate about anything and everything. I am graduating with honours, and a scholarship to Humber North for Nursing. :)

I haven't read the e-mails so I may be repeating a point.

The science is NOT clear. This whole area is very complex and anyone who thinks it isn't is not being scientific.

You might as well say that perfume sales have increased at the same time as divorce rates so marriage breakup is caused by buying perfume.

Life - especially ralationships - cannot be stripped down to simplfied "scientific" analysis like this. No-one can explain love.

I beleive marriage is a vital glue for society and it plays a part in creating stability - something we desperatly need.

But hey, the post got lots of hits so who cares if it's wrong...
